Name of Principal:
Dr Helen McLernon
Name of School:
Doagh Primary School
Area:
Effective features of learning and teaching
Focus:
“The update to staff on quality learning and teaching helped staff to reflect on their classroom practice. The session focused on how to ensure provision is child centred, how do we ensure quality learning and assessment experiences and what makes a great lesson. The training provided the staff with confirmation that they are providing quality learning and teaching experiences for the children in their class.”
Impact:
“It enabled the staff to focus on their strengths as well as those areas that need development, at a class and whole-school level. Joan’s session with the staff has enabled the staff to reflect on the good practice that is currently in place within the school.
It provided excellent ideas of how to take some areas forward such as the importance of effective questioning, differentiation and classroom displays. The session was beneficial in that it reminded staff of the ‘bigger picture’ – whole-school issues and not just classroom issues.
It helped staff understand the role of leadership and management within the school and the expectations placed on Principals/senior leadership”
